🌸 A Garden Party to Remember

When our friendship group got together to plan a baby shower for Rachel, we knew we wanted something soft, sweet, and full of love.

After tossing around a few ideas (and maybe a few cupcakes), we landed on a “Vintage Rose Garden” theme. Think: delicate florals, rustic touches, and a colour palette of blush pinks and creamy whites. It was the perfect way to welcome a new little lady into our girl gang.

🌸 The Venue: Llwyn Country House

Set in the heart of the Welsh countryside, Llwyn Country House gave us the perfect backdrop.

With its neutral décor, painted hardwood floors, and sun-drenched windows, it was a dream to decorate. No clashing carpets or loud wallpaper, just a blank canvas ready for bunting, blooms, and baby love.

The open-plan dining space had a large bay window and French doors that opened onto the terrace, letting in heaps of natural light. It felt like the outdoors was joining the party, which was perfect for our garden-inspired theme.

🌸 Styling the Space

We kept the colour scheme simple: white and pale pink with pops of greenery. Long-stem roses, floral garlands, and wooden accents brought the outdoors in. Pinecones, petals, and a few vintage props (hello, miniature wheelbarrows and watering cans!) added that rustic garden feel we were after.

To tie it all together, we hung fabric bunting in gingham and vintage floral prints from the tables to the ceiling. It gave the room a whimsical, handmade charm that felt like we were celebrating something special!

🌸 Welcome Drinks & Sweet Touches

Guests were greeted with sweet pink lemonade served in mason jars, garnished with mint leaves, tied with pink-and-white floral ribbon, and finished with a stripy paper straw for that nostalgic touch. It was refreshing, pretty, and totally on theme.

The welcome table also featured a jug of long-stem pink roses and a miniature baby countdown chalkboard, because who doesn’t love a personalised detail?

🌸 Guest Book with a Twist

Instead of a traditional guest book, we asked guests to write messages on paper petals. These would later be glued together to form a 3D rose, a keepsake Rachel could display in the nursery. The chalkboard sign read: “Help the flower bloom. Pick a petal. Leaf a print.” It was a creative twist that fit the theme perfectly.

🌸 Baby Bucket List & Name Game

Each guest found a notecard at their place setting asking them to suggest one thing Rachel and Rich should do in their baby’s first year. Some of the advice was sweet (“take a photo every month”), some was practical (“sleep when the baby sleeps”), and some was just plain fun (“have a picnic in the garden with baby in a sunhat!”). We collected the cards in a glass jar tied with pink ribbon because even baby advice deserves to look cute.

We also had a “Name That Baby” station with heart-shaped chalkboards for guests to guess what the baby might be called. It was a quick, fun activity that got everyone chatting, and some of the guesses were wild!

We used wooden heart chalkboards on the day, but this version includes sweet little suggestion cards for guests to jot down their baby name ideas, and even space for them to give a reason why they love it!

🌸 Dessert Table Goals

The dessert table was a total showstopper. My sister-in-law Sarah made the stunning naked cake, topped with pink and white florals, perched on a white wooden crate.

But she wasn’t the only star baker, our friends came equipped with homemade treats galore! We had mini strawberry mousse shots, iced angel cakes, fluffy marshmallows, cake pops, and chocolate-dipped strawberries. The whole table smelled like a patisserie.

We used white and glass crockery to keep the look clean and elegant, and added height with cake stands, and wooden crates. The table was dotted with floral touches, greenery, and rustic props like birdcages and watering cans. And of course, more rose petals!

🌸 Baby Scan Display

One of the most special touches was a pastel watercolour print of the actual baby scan, which I had sent to a lovely small business on Etsy called Crafty Chap Gifts.

The print was framed and displayed on top of wicker hamper baskets, styled with a glass cloche holding baby shoes, a watering can, pinecones, and soft greenery. It was a beautiful, personal moment that doubled as décor and a heartfelt gift.

🌸 The Vintage Ladder

Although I originally imagined the vintage ladder as the main decorative piece, it found its perfect place tucked into a cosy corner of the room. I had already painted it in chalk paint for a rustic finish, and it fit the theme beautifully.

The ladder was styled with pink 3D letters spelling “BABY,” floral garlands, pinecones, and candles. I printed black-and-white photos from Rachel’s social media, including her wedding photo and a snap of their chocolate Labrador, to create a mini family tree moment. It was a sweet surprise that added a personal and sentimental touch.

🌸 Afternoon Tea & Table Styling

Llwyn Country House served a classic afternoon tea with a delicious mix of sandwiches, pastries, and cakes. Highlights included smoked salmon and cream cheese rolls, goats cheese truffle and beetroot bites, and homemade scones with jam and clotted cream (my personal fave!).

Each table was set with white crockery, themed message cards, and party favours. I repurposed empty wine bottles as vases, tied with lace ribbon and filled with roses and greenery. I also used my vintage tea sets to create unique centrepieces. Stacked teacups became candle holders, surrounded by pinecones, flowers, and framed poems. It was all about layering textures and keeping things soft and feminine.

🌸 Party Favours & Poetic Touches

Each guest took home a heart-shaped tealight holder made from driftwood, wrapped in cellophane and tied with curling ribbon. Inside was a rose-scented tealight and a framed poem asking guests to light it on the day Rachel’s baby arrives:

🌸 Games, Music & Photo Fun

We had a blast playing “Name That Baby Tune,” a game curated by our playlist pro, Tasha R. She created a Spotify playlist of 20 songs with “baby” or “girl” in the title. We played short snippets and had guests guess the song and artist. Some favourites included Ice Ice Baby (Vanilla Ice), Baby One More Time (Britney Spears), and Material Girl (Madonna). It was a great way to get everyone laughing and singing along.

For the photos, we hired a rustic wooden backdrop from Quaint Hearted Weddings, draped with white tulle, greenery, and pink and white flower garlands.

It was set up in front of the French windows, and the lighting turned out beautifully.

Our sewing bee, Tasha H, made a stunning floral baby bump sash for Rachel using leftover lace and artificial flowers.

It featured soft pink and ivory blooms, delicate greenery, and the “in full bloom” tag written in the centre. It was the perfect finishing touch to Rachel’s outfit, she looked absolutely radiant.
