Make Your Friend A DIY ‘Friends’ Inspired ‘Crap Bag’ Gift

Since its debut in 1994, Friends is one of the most popular sitcoms in the world!  Friends is continuously on our TV, and my other half declares he is the biggest fan!

He claims he knows more about Friends than most, and annoyingly I have to agree – yes, he is THAT person. You know the type who recites every line word for word! On a more practical note, I use his knowledge to win Friends trivia quizzes.

I tasked myself with finding my Friends obsessed man a gift he would love. I decided I would make a gift for him. I made a DIY crap bag full of carefully disguised parcels and put his knowledge to the test!

The crap bag cost me just under £100.00 to put together. One of the gifts cost me £70.00 alone, so if you are on a budget, this can be as expensive as you want it to be.

I wrapped each gift in the theme of Monica’s apartment door – a lilac colour with a yellow spy hole frame.

The One With Mrs Ross And Mr Rachel

I bought a casino slot machine, money box as a gift. It links to the Season 5 episodes where the gang head to Las Vegas to visit Joey on the set of his movie.

The finale ends with a very drunk and very married Ross and Rachel! We hear them say to each other Hello Mrs Ross! Well hello Mr Rachel! as they leave the chapel.

The One With The Joey Special

As a nod to Joey ordering two pizzas, I included two mini ones made from jelly sweets. If you recall, Joey mentions it during a conversation with Phoebe in Season 4 when he is in London feeling homesick.

The Joey Special is referred to again in Season 6. When Chandler forgets to pass on a message about an audition, he comes home with a delicious peace offering.

The One Where Later Is Not Good Enough

I picked out a magic 8 ball as a Season 5 reference to Ross struggling with a decision. He could not decide if he should stay friends with Rachel (at the request of Emily asking him to end his friendship).

The magic 8 ball turns out to be unhelpful as it keeps telling him to ask again later. But Ross screams in frustration later is not good enough!

The One With The Claws

There is a lobster out there for everyone, according to Phoebe. She claims old lobster couples walk around holding claws. I chose a keyring with you’re my lobster engraved because it is a symbol of the show. It is also quite fitting to give as a gift to a loved one.

It is one of my favourite episodes – the prom video. In Season 2, Phoebe explains that lobsters are destined to find their soul mate. They are devoted and loyal species, and Ross is in fact, Rachel’s lobster! Ahhh ❤

It’s a known fact that lobsters fall in love and mate for life. You can actually see old lobster couples walking around their tank, holding claws.

The One With Chuck Or Dick

I had to include these farm animal erasers as a gift. Watching the show, we have all come to love chick and duck. We see a recurring joke where Joey and Chandler both treat the birds like their very own children!

The clue points to a conversation in Season 3, where they discuss if the chick and duck had a baby, what would they name it. Joey suggests we could call it Chuck! Chandler responds with, or Dick!

The One With All The Chocolate You Want

The shape of this gift gives this one away! I wrapped up a Toblerone, albeit not a gigantic one. Joey’s obsession with Emily’s duty-free purchase always made me chuckle in Season 4.

After obsessively staring at the chocolate, Joey could not resist and interrupts Emily’s phone conversation with Ross asking for the chocolate bar. To which she impatiently replies Yes, Joey, you can have all the chocolate you want, just take it.

The One Where It’s All Relative

I love a quiz as much as the next person. I thought it would be fun to include the same quiz that forces Monica and Rachel to give up their apartment in Season 4. I typed up all of the questions and answers for my other half to play. Luckily, he didn’t answer transpondster!

As an alternative, Argos and Smyths Toys both stock the game Friends: The One With The Apartment Bet based on the trivia game played on the show. It includes the four different categories and a super-fast lightning round!

The One At The Coffee House

I wanted to focus one gift on Central Perk, as it became a character of its very own. I intended to wrap some coffee mugs but discovered Lego recreated the actual coffee house! Complete with Lego figures and authentic details to celebrate the shows 25th anniversary. Although a little expensive, it was perfect for a Friends fanatic and a Lego fan. Two birds with one stone!

Finally, here’s a little fun fact about the coffee house in the Season 10 finale. The crew took down the set of Central Perk to build the airport where Ross and Rachel say goodbye in the final episode. In the final scene, when Rachel asks if they want to get one last coffee, and Chandler asks Where? this was sincere since there was nowhere for them to go!

I hope I have inspired you to make your crap bag for your very own lobster!

    1. Hi April, I realise my response is extremely late so I can only apologise for this. I have updated the blog post today to include the spy hole frame template in case anybody wishes to create their own gift tags. I hope this helps.
